Sports Car Grand Prix to feature Ford's Living Legends GT40 Concept car to highlight tour stop at The Glen.
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 6, 2002) -- The Sports Car Grand Prix at The Glen will feature cars both on and off the track for fans to enjoy, including Ford's Living Legends Tour - a one-of-a-kind road show featuring modern day classics from Ford, such as Mustang, Thunderbird and the new GT40 concept car. Automotive enthusiasts attending the Sports Car Grand Prix, June 21-23, will not want to miss the Living Legends car hauler when it stops in Watkins Glen during its cross-country summer tour. On board will be Ford's Living Legends: the classic Ford Forty-Nine concept, the all-new Ford Thunderbird, the 2003 Mustang Mach 1 and, never before seen, the 2003 Mustang Pony. The star of the tour is Ford's GT40 concept car, an award-winning supercar project that will become a reality in 2003 as Ford Motor Company celebrates its centennial year.
"The Living Legends are unlike any vehicles in the world -- no company can match Ford's richly diverse automotive heritage," notes J. Mays, Ford Vice President of Design. "These are the classics that make car lovers out of all of us. And to see them together in a group is quite an opportunity."
"Our fans were able to watch the legendary Ford Thunderbird pace the Rolex 24 At Daytona earlier this year," added Grand American Road Racing President Roger Edmondson. "Now our fans will get a rare chance to see another classic sports car reborn with the new Ford GT40 concept car on display during the Sports Car Grand Prix at The Glen."
The Living Legends Tour is an annual series of summer events, where Ford supplies a catalyst of exciting cars that draw together automotive enthusiasts. Each year, the tour features something new and different. In 2000, the American Dream Car Tour traveled across the United States with three classic late-1950s Thunderbirds. Last year, the 2001 Living Legends Tour hit 48 states and Canada with the all-new Thunderbirds and Mustangs.
The Sports Car Grand Prix at The Glen will feature the Rolex Sports Car Series in the 6 Hours of the Glen on Sunday, June 23. Also highlighting the event will be the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series and Ferrari Challenge. Tickets for the 2002 season at Watkins Glen International, including the Sports Car Grand Prix weekend, June 21-23, are still available.
