LOCAL FAVORITES MAY BE FUELD BY FOND MEMORIES FROM FONTANA

INDIANAPOLIS (March 31, 2005) -- If co-pilots Cort Wagner and Stefan Johansson of New Century Mortgage Chip Ganassi Racing are as studious off the track as they are timely on the tarmac, the two would know that Fontana conjures up images of Daytona Prototype delight for owner Chip Ganassi after his teams started one-two-three en route to a race win and the Driver and Team Championships at California Speedway last season. Both Wagner and Johansson will have a chance to back up the Ganassi Racing stable's series of SoCal successes this weekend as the two pedal the no.02 New Century Mortgage Lexus-Riley for 400k in front of a hometown crowd.

With primary sponsor New Century Mortgage just a stone's throw away in Irvine, Calif., Los Angeles native Wagner is an easy pick for local favorite this Sunday for Round 3 of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series around the 2.82-mile infield road course.

"I just love this environment, this track and everything about the race at California Speedway," said Wagner, who with Johansson stands fourth in DP points with 52 championship markers. "It's going to be a hometown event for New Century Mortgage, and hopefully we can put together a good run. The track has always been a favorite of mine and is growing and growing each season as evidenced in NASCAR recently adding a second race. We're due some better luck after the first two races of the season, and we hope to get it turned around this weekend."

Although co-driver of the no.02 New Century Mortgage Lexus-Riley Johansson hails from the snow-capped mountains of Vaxjo, Sweden, the former Formula One shoe is a California transplant having put his roots down in Los Angeles six months ago. Johansson looks forward to the challenges of the Fontana configuration, and to waking up in his own bed every morning before driving to the track.

"Besides the fact that we'll get to drive to the track every morning from home, I'm very eager to get back into the car," said Johansson. "We've shown speed through the first two rounds, but haven't been as competitive as we would have liked to be. This weekend is a perfect opportunity to show the speed we've had all year, and we'd like to translate that into a podium at the very least in Fontana."

Fans of New Century Mortgage Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates can catch the no.02 New Century Mortgage Lexus-Riley in action at the Ferrari Maserati 400k this Sunday, April 3rd at 4:00 pm ET (LIVE, SPEED Channel).
