Daytona Beach, FL – The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, the world’s most produced GT race car, have five of the top ten positions after 5-1/2 hours in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The pole-sitting Konrad/Orbit Racing Porsche with factory driver Nick Tandy(GB) behind the wheel, took the early lead in the GT class, but a flat tire and a brush with the wall that caused them to replace the right-side door and both right-side fenders.
Right now, the Magnus Porsche with Nicolas Armindo (FR) leads the class, with Brumos Porsche’s Marc Lieb fourth, Alex Job Racing Porsche of Marc Lieb fifth, and Porsche Junior factory driver Klaus Bachler in the Wright Motorsports/Snow Racing Porsche 10th.
The #30 MOMO NGT Porsche, currently in the hands of Henrique Cisneros, has run as high as high as third place during the first five hours, much of that with Porsche factory driver Patrick Pilet (FR) at the wheel.
“The car was very easy to drive, really consistent during all three of my stints. I had no issues. I was really careful with the brakes. I braked really early to compare to the others but I just tried to save the brakes for the end of the race. I was also easy with the gearbox. Everything works perfectly. We had one small issue with the tire change and we lost some time on the second pit stop, but afterwards it was fine. I had no water for the last hour in the car because it was empty. At least it is not too warm. But the car was fine and I had no problems. I’m really confident for the rest of the race,” said Pilet, the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup France champion.
