Last year's Sunoco Daytona Challenge winner Felipe Nasr is to return to Daytona with Action Express Racing. Nasr competed in the 2012 Rolex 24 after winning the Sunoco Daytona Challenge and the prize of a fully funded race seat with a Daytona Prototype team in the 2012 Rolex 24. The young Brazilian went on to exceed expectations and finished on the podium in third position driving with Michael Shank Racing.
“I’m delighted to be returning to Daytona to drive with Action Express Racing at the 2013 Rolex 24. After finishing third on my first attempt my goal is to win this prestigious race – with Action Express I believe we have a team capable of taking the top step of the podium!” Commented Nasr.
Nasr, who has just been confirmed to race with Carlin next season in GP2, made a great impression on the GRAND-AM establishment when racing in the 2012 Rolex 24 and Gary Nelson, Action Express Racing Team Manager, is proud to have Nasr in the team:
"Our plan to ask Felipe to drive an Action Express Corvette began 12 months ago. We had the opportunity to work with Felipe last December at Daytona during a two day test session and were very impressed with his ability to quickly transition from the cars he had been driving to our Daytona Prototype. Then later, in January, we watched closely from a few pits away as he drove a very smart race for Michael Shank Racing. We are very excited that he accepted our invitation to join our team for the 2013 Rolex 24. Going to Daytona everyone at Action Express has the same attitude as Felipe, we expect to win!"
The 2013 Sunoco Daytona Challenge was won by SPEED EuroSeries racer Ivan Bellarosa. Bellarosa has just returned from testing with Action Express in both Virginia and Daytona, and after an excellent first run hopes to emulate Felipe’s success:
“It was great to work with such an experienced team as Action Express. The guys were extremely helpful and my mentor Max Papis also helped me get to grips with the car. I know both the Roar test and race will be extremely different and I can’t wait to get back!”
The “Roar before the 24” takes place at Daytona International Speedway on January 4th-6th 2013 and the team Bellarosa will be racing with will be announced shortly.
