ECR Engines Win Grand-Am Daytona Prototype, Trans-Am Races
GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing takes checkers at New Jersey, Lopesport Racing at Toronto
JOLIET, Ill. (July 20, 2010) -- Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines earned its first two victories in professional sports car racing last weekend when it powered the race winners in both the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the SCCA Trans-Am Series.
Jon Fogarty captured the pole at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Chevrolet/Riley in Saturday's qualifying session.
GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing co-driver Alex Gurney took the lead in Sunday's race with less than two laps remaining and pulled away for a 3.674-second margin of victory. It was the first win this season for the defending Daytona Prototype champions who have been using ECR Engines for just the past four races.
R.J. Lopez qualified sixth on the Toronto (Canada) temporary street course in the Lopesport Racing No. 6 Disco 106/ECR Engines/Goodyear Chevrolet Corvette. Just three laps into Saturday's race, he had already moved into second place and took over the top spot on lap 14. He never looked back and took the checkered flag in the 44-lap, time-shortened race with a commanding 8.984-second cushion.
"First of all, I would like to congratulate GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing and Lopesport Racing on their wins," said Richie Gilmore, general manager of ECR Engines. "The GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and the SCCA Trans-Am Series are markets ECR Engines has worked hard to tap into, so it's very rewarding to be able to get our first wins in both series on the same weekend. The Chevrolet engines used in each series are different from the other, with the LS engine in the Grand-Am Series, while the Trans-Am engine is based on the SB2 Series engine. These wins show we're heading in the right direction with both disciplines. My hat's off to the race teams, as well as the guys who work on these specific engine programs and everyone else at ECR Engines for a job well done. "
