HOW WAS YOUR RUN?
"It was fun. The biggest thing was being consistent, not doing something wrong like missing a shift or hurting the car. I was a little nervous getting in the first time. But once I got in, it was just like practice. "The car was a little on the loose side from where it was during the test the other night. We may change tire combinations and that might help it. I got to drive the car a little different from where I drove it the other night."
HOW MUCH FUN ARE YOU HAVING?
"It's a lot of fun. A lot of focus went into this race and this team. I'm having fun. I'm enjoying myself. Dale Jr is too. I think once we get into this race, we're going to labor harder. I'm use to running 3 1/2 to four or five hours. I was just getting my rhythm down and going good. I think my next stint will be better, the next will be better and the next will be better."
DOES IT STOP BEING DIFFERENT ENOUGH TO JUST BE RACING?
"It's just racing. You're really watching what's going on around you, the cars with you, the cars behind you. It's racing. There's a lot of calculations, things you've got to do, you take a chance or you don't take a chance. I may be a little bit more on the careful side to start the race. We'll get in the race and push the envelop a little harder."
DO YOU FIGHT YOUR NASCAR INSTINCTS
"A little bit on the road course part of it. The turns and tri-oval I love because I can draft up on guys and get in the corner with them. I just can't forget you can use the brakes on this car. A Winston Cup car you cannot. You've got to be careful with the brakes getting in the corners. This car just loves brakes. "I needed to run faster longer. I was in 1:56-second bracket there at the end. I needed to be down in the 54's or better. We're going to work on that. I could run in the 53 at first. Then we went off into the 55's and 56's. We need to be faster than that longer."
ON THE SHORT DRIVING STINT AND THE DRIVER CHANGE
"I just got warmed up. That (the driving change) was pretty unique. We practiced it and it's one thing at a time. Take your time and it'll come together. Kelly got in that time and didn't have his ear plugs plugged in."
