DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 20, 2003) -- Doran-Lista Racing will defend its 2002 victory at the inaugural 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant with its new No. 27 Toyota-powered Doran JE4 Daytona Prototype.
The Ohio-based race team debuted its new Daytona Prototype earlier this month at the Bully Hill Vineyards 250 at Watkins Glen International. In its first-ever race, the No. 27 Toyota qualified on the second row and finished third overall with Didier Theys and Bill Auberlen at the wheel.
"We learned a lot of things at The Glen to improve the car and become more competitive. I think we could have finished better at The Glen, but we were too conservative with the rain tires. At the end though, we were just as fast as the other cars," remarked Theys, who won the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant with Doran-Lista last year. "I hope we can repeat our victory at Mont-Tremblant. I think we'll be faster there than we were at The Glen, so that should help us."
Although the team originally announced it would campaign the car only at the Bully Hill Vineyards 250 and Daytona Finale, team owner Kevin Doran now reports that he plans to run all of the remaining 2003 Rolex Series events.
Theys, Fredy Lienhard Sr. and Fredy Lienhard Jr. joined forces to capture the inaugural Rolex Series victory at Mont-Tremblant last year. While Doran says the team's driver lineup is still not set in stone, currently Theys and Lienhard Sr. are slated to defend their 2002 win, but Lienhard Jr. will be unable to attend.
The 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant will be held on the classic Canadian road course September 19-21. Tickets are currently on sale for the second-annual Rolex Series race and can be purchased by calling 800-517-5725 or logging onto www.lecircuit.com.
