NY (August 9, 2001) - The 2001 Global Crossing @ The Glen weekend is underway and the Doran Lista team didn't waste any time. The team of Mauro Baldi and Didier Theys captured the overall pole for the Bully Hill Vineyards 250, which will take the green flag Friday evening, August 10 at 6:30 p.m.
"Today, our car was running very well and it was easy to go really fast, to push it," Mauro Baldi said of his No. 27 Judd Ferrari. Doran Lista won the overall Six Hours of The Glen held earlier this year in May.
Team Dyson took the outside pole with No. 16 Weaver/Leitzinger Ford R&S entry, with the third starting position going to Intersport Racing's No. 37 Judd Lola, driven by Jon Field and Oliver Gavin.
Top qualifiers in the SRPII class were the Archangel Motorsport with a qualification in the seventh position with Andy Lally and Jeff Tillman. The top GTS qualifier was the Fordahl Park Place Saleen S7R, driven by Chris Bingham and Ron Johnson in the 10th position. In the AGT class, Team X-1R, with drivers Doug Goad and Craig Conway, will start in the 11th position and were the top AGT qualifier.
Also on hand for the Bully Hill Vineyards 250 were NASCAR Winston Cup regulars Kyle Petty and John Andretti. They are sharing driving duties in the No. 45 Orbit racing Porsche. They will start 24th in tomorrow's event.
The action on the track is just heating up, despite the record-breaking temperatures in upstate New York. Tomorrow, the NASCAR Winston Cup and NASCAR Busch North Series' take to the track with practice and qualifying sessions.
