Daytona24: Glynn Geddie race report

EVENTFUL 24 HOURS OF DAYTONA FOR GEDDIE

31st January 2011 - Glynn Geddie has vowed he won't let his disastrous Daytona debut wreck his American dream.

The 20 year-old suffered a series of setbacks at the Rolex 24 Hour challenge finishing a disappointing 44th but remains determined to crack it Stateside.

It seemed everything was destined to go wrong for the Aberdeen ace even before the very first green flag when two initial deals collapse before finally joining Team Bennett in a Ferrari F430 Grand Am.

One of Geddie's co-drivers shunted the car just hours before the big race which looked set to force the car out of action.

Glynn Geddie: "All the team problems in the build up were quite unsettling but it was still a great experience to drive a Ferrari at Daytona.

"However, there's no doubt the accident cost us vital time to properly prepare the car for the race but the team did fantastically well to get the car back on the track, considering all four corners were quite badly damaged.

"That meant the team didn't have time to focus on the final pre-race checks.

"We then suffered two tyre blow outs in the first seven laps before being hit with a gearbox failure which cost us six hours. That was a real blow as we were well positioned at that stage and on course for a strong finish.

"I guess it wasn't meant to be although the experience will stand me in good stead in the future and I'll be looking to race again in America when the opportunity arises."
