Brumos Racing Brings Porsche-Powered Lineup to Rolex 24 in GT Debut
Jacksonville, FL: Brumos has long been known as `America's Porsche Authority' and has built its reputation through the years as one of the top Porsche dealerships in the country. Today the Jacksonville, Florida based company also includes premier Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and SMART dealerships, but the Brumos name is best known for its legendary Porsche racing team. In six decades of competition, the Brumos name has appeared on a variety of racecars, but for 2011, the team has come full circle, as owner Dan Davis introduces a new #59 Brumos Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car in its GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series GT class debut at the 49th running of the Rolex 24 of Daytona.
Davis considers the move to GT competition as a return to the company's roots, saying, "Campaigning a Porsche 911 is a natural fit for Brumos. Our history and tradition with Porsche goes back for decades, and the concept of racing what we sell is an important one for us as a Porsche dealership. We have the best team and best lineup of Porsche drivers and I expect to see the Brumos #59 out in front again at Daytona."
The 2011 Brumos Racing team may be all-new, but it is sure to evoke nostalgia for many. Wearing the traditional white, red and blue Brumos livery, the team is pure Porsche and not only because of its car. Brumos will round out its Rolex 24 driver lineup by adding Marc Lieb, one of the most successful Porsche Factory drivers in history. Marc and Brumos legend Hurley Haywood will join Brumos' full-time driving duo, Andrew Davis and Leh Keen, creating a true Porsche `Dream Team'.
A Stuttgart native, Lieb is looking forward to his Daytona return. "It has been seven years since I was last in Daytona," he said. "Being with the famous Brumos team is really fantastic they have such a great history at Daytona. I am very proud to have been chosen to share the new #59 Brumos Porsche Cup Car with Leh, Andrew and Hurley."
For Andrew Davis, this year's Rolex 24 has special meaning. "This will be my 10th Rolex and I am so honored and privileged to mark this milestone in the #59 Brumos Porsche 911," he said. "We have a strong car and a great lineup. You can't go wrong with a talented driver like Marc Lieb. He will add a lot of value - not only as a driver, but with his technical background he can contribute a lot towards improving the car. Obviously, it's a grueling event, and you have to have all the variables fall your way to even finish, but we have everything in place to have an awesome race. " Leh Keen earned the 2009 Rolex Series GT Championship driving a Porsche, and is excited to return to one for 2011. "This year will be one of the most exciting of the Rolex 24 races I have driven in, knowing I will be representing Brumos," he said. "Along with my three co-drivers, the whole Brumos team is surrounding me with all of their knowledge and experience. I have a really good feeling about this race and can't wait for it to get started!"
Endurance racing legend Hurley Haywood has seen it all in his career, but for him, nothing can top a Rolex 24 race. "Daytona is just a special place," he said. "I remember coming through that tunnel for the first time back in 1969 and today it is still the same thrill. I have five Rolex 24 wins here overall and one class win, so now I am back to try and add one more class win seven is a good number."
Expectations of the "new" Brumos team run high, and few would be surprised to see the clock run out on the 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona with a #59 Brumos Porsche sitting in Victory Lane once again.
The 49th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona will take place on January 29th with the green flag set to drop at 3:30 PM ET.
