Daytona testing kicks off Dalziel's '06 schedule
Orlando, Florida (January 09, 2006) -- The New Year was just five days old when Scotland's Ryan Dalziel kick-started his 2006 racing schedule with a three day test in Pacific Coast Motorsports' #89 Pontiac Riley Daytona Prototype at Daytona International Speedway, Florida (5-7 January).
The 23-year-old racer joined his PCM team-mates, Alex Figge, David Empringham and Jon Fogarty as they prepared for the 44th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona (26-29 January), the twice round the clock endurance race marking the opening round of the 2006 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.
Dalziel was reunited at Daytona with the Pontiac Riley Daytona Prototype he debuted last November as Pacific Coast Motorsports entered the final round of the 2005 Rolex Sports Car Series in Mexico City, Mexico. With Ryan and Alex sharing the driving duties the team collected an impressive sixth place maiden finish having run as high as second overall earlier in the race.
Returning to the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway, where he made two Rolex Sport Car Series starts last season including a GT class podium in June driving alongside his brother John, Ryan spent last week's test sessions further acclimatizing to the Daytona Prototype racer he'll share with his three team-mates in America's famed 24 hour sports car classic.
Having been out of a race car since testing a Champ Car at Sebring last month, Dalziel was eager to build his seat-time in PCM's Pontiac Riley.
"We didn't have the luxury of spending several days testing the car prior to our Daytona Prototype debut back in November so it was great to finally take the time at Daytona to continue to put the car through its paces and prepare for what's undoubtedly the toughest race on the sports car calendar.
"I have to say I'm really excited to be working as part of this team. I firmly believe we've got one of the strongest driver line-ups and together as a package we compliment the knowledge and experience found in the rest of the team. The test proved useful, we know the areas that need to be worked on and I've no doubt about the effort that will go into the team's preparations between now and our return to Daytona at the end of the month."
The 44th Rolex 24 at Daytona gets underway at 12pm on Saturday 28th January.
