Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series: Didier Theys, Kerry Hitt and Chris Bingham all won class driving championships as the season ended with the Dark Dog Grand Am Finale at Daytona International Speedway.

Theys won the SRP championship after finishing fourth in class in the race. Kerry Hitt won the American GT championship and Chris Bingham won the season-long battle in GTS.

Goodyear was the sole tire provider for the SRP, AGT and GTS classes in 2002. In 2003, Goodyear will be the tire supplier for the new Daytona Prototype class. The AGT and GTS classes will merge in 2003 and Goodyear will supply the tires for that class as well.

James Weaver and Chris Dyson won the overall race victory in their SRP class Dyson Racing Riley&Scott. They toured the 3.56-mile Daytona road circuit 98 times during the three-hour race.

Rob Morgan and Charles D. Morgan drove their Morgan Dollar Motorsports Corvette to victory in the AGT class.

Mike Newton and Randolf Watkins won the GTS class in their Saleen SR7.

Theys won the overall pole and, along with co-driver Fredy Lienhard Jr., led the early segments of the race. Theys said the sunny Florida weather made track conditions difficult, but credited the team’s Goodyear tires with matching the conditions.

“The heat was a factor today, but this is Daytona and we know how to deal with the heat here,” Theys said. “It made grip difficult but our Goodyear tires were perfect.”
