Guy Cosmo Joins Spirit of Daytona For Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona
Daytona Beach, Fl. (June 28, 2006) With his recent reputation as a designated 'hot-shoe' in the Grand American Road Racing Association's Rolex Series, Guy Cosmo will lend his talents to the two car effort of the Spirit of Daytona team driving with NASCAR Champion, Bobby Labonte in the #07 Direct TV / Spirit of Daytona Prototype car Thursday, June 29 at Daytona International Speedway. The No. 07 Pontiac Crawford will be outfitted with a blue and white paint scheme inspired by DIRECTV's logo and colors. MarineMax, the nation's largest boating and yachting retailer, will also be sponsoring the Daytona Prototype for the race.
Cosmo was called into action earlier in the season, stepping in for the injured Memo Gidley. His ability to quickly adapt and help bring his team to the front did not go unnoticed.
"Certainly, I'd prefer to be in a permanent role driving for the Rolex Series Championship," acknowledged Guy. "But, all-in-all, it's been an excellent year. I think everywhere I've participated I've made solid contributions to the team's effort. Working with Spirit of Daytona will be another great opportunity to showcase my talent while helping and working with a top tier prototype team.
Guy tested with Spirit of Daytona earlier this month.
"We had a very good test," noted Guy. "It gave me a chance to work with the team and get some seat time. With this being a one-day event, we're going to be under the gun to get up to speed, so the test was very important. Interestingly, though, I think the one-day format levels the field by putting all the teams under a time crunch."
On driving with Labonte, Guy expressed his admiration.
"This is going to be a lot of fun," Guy added. "Obviously, Bobby is the consummate professional and at the top of his game. Even though he's an oval specialist, he's had some time in Daytona Prototypes and, more than that, he's one of those guys that can drive the wheels off of anything he gets in. And, you can tell he really enjoys being here. I think the two of us can put together some great results!"
The Rolex Series Brumos Porsche 250 will be televised live on SPEED at 7:00 p.m. ET. Thursday, June 29.
Immediately following the Brumos Porsche 250, Guy will make his way to Lime Rock Park in Connecticut to participate with B-K Motorsports and his teammate, Jamie Bach, driving the #8 Road & Track/Kumho Tire/ Mazda powered Courage LMP2 car. The team will race in the American Le Mans Series New England Grand Prix, July 1.
The New England Grand Prix starts at 3 p.m., Saturday and will be broadcast tape delayed at 4 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, July 2, on CBS Sports. The ALMS Radio Web will have live coverage online at www.americanlemans.com. In addition, all races are televised live in Europe in a television arrangement between the series and MotorsTV, a European television channel dedicated to the world of motorsports.
