The New Century Mortgage, Monster Cable and mail2web.com-backed Porsche 911 GT3 RS of The Racer's Group ran quickest in class today in the first official practice for the Grand-Am Weekend of Champions race to be held this Saturday. 2003 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona overall winner Kevin Buckler set the fast lap, turning a time of 1:55.2, to best the field by 4/10ths of a second. Buckler drove two TRG cars today with his co-drivers Pierre Ehret and Chris Gleason, as the team tested two cars to maximize each driver's track time and finalize setup.

"Our time on the track today was excellent," said Buckler. "It's been a lot of work prepping our cars for a different set of rules in the Grand-Am series after just running Petit Le Mans, and our crew is working extra hard to get the cars sorted out. Combined with the limited time we have in the garages at Daytona [series rules mandate that teams must vacate the garages in the early evenings] our crew is swamped. True to form, however, they're kicking butt, and our cars are ready to roll tomorrow. Chris and Pierre are doing exceptionally well out there -- their times are steadily getting faster. We're hitting on all cylinders right now, and I'd say it's going pretty darn good."

Pierre Ehret, of Santa Rosa, California, commented on the comfort and drivability of the car. "Our car is easy to drive to the edge," he said. "We stuck a new set of Dunlops on the car in the middle of the second session, and I was able to immediately go 4 seconds faster. The car is hooked up."

Chris Gleason gave his impression on the day's events. "Having a chance to test both of the TRG cars here this weekend is a blessing," he said, "because it gives all of us more time to experiment on the track. Both cars are going quick, and we're able to discern the setup in quick fashion. The engine is really strong in the #66 car -- it does about 5 or 6 mph better on both straight-aways, which naturally, we like."
