Daytona, FL -- February 1, 2004-- Halfway through the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the three Monster Cable Porsches of The Racer's Group have switched positions, and two are in the top five. The #68 car, driven by Jim Matthews/Lars Nielsen/Pierre Ehret/Robert Nearn/Cyril Sauvage, suffered a suspension upright failure after contact with another car, necessitating a full suspension change on one corner of the car. The change cost the team nearly 15 laps, but the car is currently in 11th position.
Car #66, driven by Kevin Buckler/Jorg Bergmeister/Timo Bernhard/Patrick Long, has made a stunning comeback and picked its way through the pack and fought to 4th position in class, making up more than eight laps from its earlier troubles. Bernhard, Bergmeister and Long have all driven double stints into the night.
Car #68 swapped position with the #66 car, and currently runs 5th in class. The Porsche, backed by F1 Boston and Gleason Agency, has run a trouble-free race thus far, running consistently fast for the first twelve hours of the night.
