Borcheller qualifies third for Rolex 24

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 29 - Terry Borcheller of Gainesville, Ga., qualified third Thursday afternoon for this weekend's Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway in the Bell Motorsports DORAN JE4 Pontiac #54.

His third lap was his fastest, at 1:46.283 for an average speed of 120.584 mph.

His co-drivers are Forest Barber of Fort Worth, Texas; Christian Fittipaldi of Key Biscayne, Fla. and Andy Pilgrim of Delray Beach, Fla. ' Scott Pruett won the pole in the brand-new Chip Ganassi Racing Riley & Scott Lexus, picking up quite a bit of speed from that car's practice times.

"The sand is out of the bag, I guess," was Borcheller's take on that situation.

"We felt like our qualifying run was good," Borcheller continued. "We were two seconds faster than our practice times, so that's impressive. We'll see. The race is long. The car that has no contact and stays out of the pits is going to be the car that wins the race.

"We wanted the pole as bad as anybody, but you can't get them all," he
continued. "We're happy with our run."

Borcheller's regular teammate, Barber, didn't get any practice laps in during the day but he did run during the special night practice session Thursday night.

"I spun once trying to avoid a spinning Porsche exiting the second
hairpin, but there was no damage to the car," Barber said. "Our car is running
well. It should be good for the race."
