After such a strong start to the Rolex 24 at Daytona, there was disappointment for Tafel Racing shortly after quarter distance had been completed.

Eric Lux had been at the wheel of the car for an hour when a shock failed as he was coming through Turn 1 in his #74 Rembrandt Charms supported car. He managed to control the car, which suffered a subsequent puncture, and brought it back into the pit road. It went behind the wall at 8.30pm where the Tafel Racing mechanics did a tremendous job to replace the left front strut, suspension, brakes, radiator and nose in 47 minutes.

Wolf Henzler, now at the wheel, was making up ground when he was unfortunate enough to have the right front strut fail. Another 40 minutes went by before he returned to the race (10.17pm) and he has been running trouble-free since.

Cars 72 and 73 were running well, with Robin Liddell taking over for teammate Andrew Davis in the North South sponsored #72 entry making up good ground on the class leader and moving into 2nd place on the leaderboard. Smart pit strategy under third full course caution period saw both cars gain a lap and close the gap to the leader.

"It's frustrating to have a great position and then get caught up in a caution when you have worked hard to have clear track in front of you," said Davis after his first turn behind the wheel. "I really had a lot of momentum going and had good lap times and then had to end my stint under caution."

Unfortunately #72's luck didn't hold into the new day and it went behind the wall at 11.50pm for attention to the gearbox.
