Risi Competizione finished second overall after a strong final six hours in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, despite an electrical problem that slowed the team's progress. Ralf Kelleners moved into second in the GT class and third overall during his double stint in the No. 35 Ferrari 360 Modena GT. Anthony Lazzaro drove the final 2.5 hours, pacing the team to second in class and second overall in the grueling 24-hour race.
Justin Keen, Eric van de Poele and Mauro Baldi drove the final six hours in the No. 34 Ferri Competizione Ferrari. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to overcome the deficit created by earlier problems and settled for fifth in class.
"It was quite unexpected to finish second overall. We were hoping to have a podium finish in the GT class, but we didn't know that would mean we would also be on the overall podium. We didn't have a trouble-free race. We had some problems which were never going to cost us the race; we could always continue again after a couple of small repairs."
"It was an up-and-down race - we had problems, we had adversity, we came back. At some points during the night, I never thought we'd be second overall. The result is good, but you're always disappointed if you don't win. Giuseppe Risi and the whole Risi Competizione crew just did an outstanding job. Calpont have been on the podium every time they've been on the car, but they've never been on the top step yet, so that's what we have to do - bring them to the top step."
"Most of me is 100 per cent delighted and part of me, as always, is thinking, 'Wouldn't it be nice to win a Rolex?' I would have taken this [second place] on Friday, let alone after the first hour [of the race] when Ralf had all those problems. The team did a fantastic job to make sure it all came together and they deserve it."
"Except for the small problem we had with the accident, everything went reall well. This car came at the last moment, but it was professionally prepared. We had the potential to be in a very good position, but we were not very lucky. I'm happy we did finish because we could have stopped after the accident, but this is a team that everyone has a passion to be part of. I was very proud to be part of it."
