ALEX JOB RACING SHRED-IT XM SATELLITE RADIO PORSCHE CRAWFORD THE FASTEST AT ROLEX 24 IN FIRST THREE HOURS - BROKEN STUB AXLE SIDELINES PROGRESS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - January 28 - Lucas Luhr and Mike Rockenfeller, both German-born drivers now living in Monte Carlo, had guided the Alex Job Racing/Emory Motorsports Porsche Crawford from the pole to the fastest race laps and the lead in the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona after two hours, but a broken stub axle has put them in the garage in hour #3.
Luhr led from the green flag until lap #20, when he came in under yellow for a put stop, and then worked his way back into the lead on lap #53, when he came in again for a driver change. Rockenfeller took over the car in 5th place, and reclaimed the lead again until the sub axle broke. The team expected to have the car back on the track within 25 minutes. Luhr turned the fastest race lap on lap #45. Las Vegas' Patrick Long will the third driver in the car later in the afternoon.
The other Porsche Daytona prototypes are running competitively, but have had to overcome early challenges. Brian Frisselle, who is sharing the RX.com Synergy Porsche Doran with his brother Burt and Dutchman Patrick Huisman, spun the car and continued on lap #54, but he lost several positions and the resulting dirt in the radiator caused coolant temperature to rise. The car continued, however, and the crew blew out the dirt with forced air at their next scheduled stop. The Synergy Porsche Doran is currently sixth overall.
The two Brumos Porsche Fabcar Evolutions are running well, but a broken shifter cable (#59) and some on-track contact (#58) have slowed their progress. Currently, #58 Red Bull Porsche Fabcar - Donohue/Maassen/Law - is 9th overall, and the #59 Barbosa/Haywood/France/Christopher Brumos Porsche is currently 41st after a 20-minute pit stop.
In the GT class, the #36 TPC Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Randy Pobst/Ian Baas/Michael Levitas/Spencer Pumpelly is leading after three hours, followed by the #74 Tafel Porsche Racing Porsche 99 GT3 Cup of Andrew Davis/Jim Tafel/Eric Lux/Charles Espenalub.
