BRUMOS PORSCHES BOTH IN TOP FIVE AT ROLEX 24 AFTER EIGHT HOURS; FARNBACHER LOLES PORSCHE 911 GT3 CUP TAKES OVER GT CLASS LEAD AS PORSCHES OCCUPY TOP THREE SPOTS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- January 27, 2007 - David Donohue/Darren Law/Buddy Rice/Scott Sharp - with Hurley Haywood added as a contingency driver, continue to race for the overall lead in the #58 Red Bull Brumos Porsche Riley, currently in second position overall only two seconds out of first after eight hours of racing in the 45th running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.
The car, which lost one minute because of a Grand-Am penalty in the fourth hour when Darren Law pulled out of the pits while the fuel hose was still attached, has closed the gap on the leading Lexus due to two yellow and some smart driving by the experienced Brumos pilots.
The #59 team car, the Brumos Porsche Riley started by Hurley Haywood, with co-drivers J.C. France, Joao Barbosa, Roberto Moreno - with David Donohue added as a contingency driver, is in sixth place overall, with the #39 Cheever Racing Crown Royal Porsche Crawford driven by Christian Fittipaldi, Sascha Maassen, Eddie Cheever and Emmanuel Collard, is 13th overall after losing eight laps to replace a gear cluster and transaxle. The other Cheever Racing Porsche, the #51 car (Mike Newton, Harrison Brix, and Tommy Erdos, with Eddie Cheever added as a contingency) is right behind its team car in 14th plaace, while the #16 Dyson Porsche Crawford (Chris Dyson, Rob Dyson, Guy Smith and Oliver Gavin) is 16th overall after eight hours.
Recent Porsche Daytona Prototypes incidents have included the Ruby Tuesday Alex Job Racing Porsche Crawford (Patrick Long/Jorg Bergmeister/Romain Dumas), which has had both a failed alternator as well as a transmission replacement, is currently running 18th. The No. 47 TruSpeed Motorsport Porsche Riley (Timo Bernhard, Charles Morgan, Rob Morgan, BJ Zacharias) had a transmission oil leak and a broken radiator, and is now in 19th place. The #00 Vision Racing Porsche Crawford (Tomas Scheckter, Ed Carpenter, Tony George, Anthony Foyt, Stephan Gregoire) also lost an alternator, and is running in 29th place.
In the Rolex GT class, #74 Tafel Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, with Wolf Henzler, Eric Lux, Jim Tafel and Dominik Farnbacher aboard, lead the first six hours before a flat tire came apart and damaged the suspension, brakes and a radiator. Taking over the class lead is the #85 Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Dirk Werner, Jorg Hardt, Pierre Ehret and Leh Keen), followed by the #72 Tafel Racing Porsche of Robin Liddell, Nathan Swartzbaugh, Dirk Muller, and Andrew Davis is now second.
