P ZERO RACING SLICK HELPS SET QUALIFYING RECORD AT ROLEX 24 QUALIFYING

Daytona Beach, FL The Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway is one of two events on two continents this weekend that makes up Pirelli's largest weekend in its storied 100 years of motorsport and it is off to a fantastic start in North America.

Pirelli's first qualifying session for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No.16 was a great success in both the Daytona Prototype (DP) and GT classes. Both classes set new Daytona International Speedway (DIS) qualifying track records on their Pirelli P Zero racing tires.

The DP class pole sitter, Oswaldo Negri Jr., crushed the Daytona International Speedway qualifying track record by over two and a half seconds after a lap of 1:40.793 in the #60 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley. Negri Jr.. He finished second in the DP class in the 2006 Rolex 24, is no stranger to Grand-Am success. He gives credit for his record setting lap to the Pirelli P Zero racing tires, "The Pirelli tires are a huge plus, they suit my driving style very much. We found what I really wanted and now I can get the most out of the car much easier."

Sylvain Tremblay set the track record by over a full second over the previous Daytona track record in the GT class by posting a 1:50.758 in his #70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8. Sylvain believes the Pirelli P Zero racing tires had a significant impact on the much improved qualifying times for the Rolex 24 this year, "The Pirelli tires have been wonderful, they have suited the car very well. The tires are extremely consistent and Pirelli have done a great job researching because they wanted to make a great tire for every car."

Two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, Helio Castroneves, driver of the #9 Penske-Taylor Racing Pontiac Riley, enjoys driving on the Pirelli P Zero racing tires, "The Pirelli tires are incredible, they are very comfortable and it is a great jump for Grand-Am."
