Max Papis returns to Daytona in a Ferrari.

Max Papis is at Daytona this week to defend his 2001 victory in the twice-around-the-clock endurance race, the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Returning behind the wheel of a Ferrari, in the JMB Racing USA Team Ferrari 360 Modena, Max looks to defend last year's victory and add another Rolex watch to his collection.

"The GT Ferrari has a very different weight and feeling. It is a slower car than I'm used to and has a closed cockpit," said the Italian Papis. "It is always a challenge to compete in sports cars and I enjoy returning to the place in America I first made my name, 'Mad Max'. I have to relearn this type of car in order to get the speed out of it. We improved the car a lot over the three practices and one qualifying session today. If we make another strong and equal step for tomorrow, we will be running where we want. I still have a lot of margin left to learn. Twenty-fours hours is a very long race, so you want the car to be set to go the distance and be there at the end of the race."

The No. 20 Ferrari 360GT was the fourth fastest GT car by the final night session, the second fastest Ferrari out of five. Papis' co-drivers are Emmanuel Collard, Augusto Farfus and Andrea Garbagnati.

Friday's schedule includes a second round qualifying session from 8:45-9:30 a.m. and an afternoon final practice from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Race start is 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
