"Mad Max" Papis update -- Sunday, February 2, 8:30 a.m.

"Mad Max" Papis is living up to his name at the 41st annual running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. His No. 20 Ferrari 360 Modena has been consistent to drive for Max and his teammates, Augusto Farfus, Andrea Garbagnati and Emmanuel Collard.

They are currently third overall and second in place in the twice-around-the-clock endurance race. Max turned the fastest lap in the car with a 1:54.307 on lap 441. Their effort has been fairly trouble-free over the 19 hours so far.

"I ran over a piece of debris during my last shift and cut a tire," said Papis. "I had to pit to get that replaced, but there was no damage. I had a hard time seeing out of the windshield because they forgot to clean it when I pitted and the reflection of the lights made it difficult to see. We have been running very strong overall and staying consistent with our times. We have been keeping the pressure on the other GT cars running with us. We'll see how it goes from here. Like I told the Speed Channel crew when they interviewed me, 'Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.' Papis, who is a big fan of the Tom Hanks classic movie "Forrest Gump", borrowed that quote from the movie.
