DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-At the halfway point in the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway, the Dark Dog Konrad Motorsport Saleen S7R is running fifth in the GTS class.

At the start of the twice-around-the-clock race, the Dark Dog Saleen began moving up the field after starting sixth in class on the grid. By lap eight, driver Franz Konrad had put the car in the GTS lead and fourth position overall.

Some bad luck with mechanical problems and a spin off track resulted in the Dark Dog Saleen dropping back to tenth in class.

"We had a good start," commented Konrad. "Then we had a problem with a tire. Then we had contact with a Corvette. Then we had a bad crash that cost us a lot of time. Now the car is running and picking up slowly so everything is perfect at the moment."

As the night progressed, the team began to diligently work their way back toward the top. At one point, the Dark Dog Saleen was the fastest car on the track.

By 12 hours into the grueling race, the Saleen had moved up to fifth in class and 21st overall.

The Derhaag Motorsports Corvette, with Dark Dog driver Justin Bell, ran as high as first in class throughout the first half of the race. While leading the GTS class and sitting in third position overall, the Corvette had to pit for a drive belt adjustment, losing the lead.

In hour ten, the Corvette again took over the GTS-class lead. While running in tenth overall, the team was forced to pit to replace the brakes.

The Dark Dog Bell Motorsports Chevrolet Doran, one of the sleek new Daytona Prototypes, was forced to retire due to engine problems.
