DAYTONA, FL, (January 30, 2002) - K&N Filters Racing team plans a special tribute to another underdog in racing and Daytona icon - Smokey Yunick. Yunick who passed away in May of 2001 was well known for his many innovations in racing. Though he was widely respected, Smokey Yunick was never a high budget racing enterprise. The K&N Filters Race Team will don special white crew shirts at the rollout for the race in honor of the racing legend and will be joined by Smokey Yunick's daughter, Trish. Yunick was always seen in public wearing his trademark pressed white uniform and specially made hat.

K&N Filters Racing is also an independent team, comprised of dedicated and knowledgeable K&N employees who hope to earn their own respect with an impressive showing at Daytona. "We've got an awesome car and a great group of talented people working on it," said Rodney Mall, K&N's CEO and one of the team's four drivers. "I truly believe we have a very good chance of placing well at Daytona."

Held February 2-3, Daytona is the first in the Grand American Sports Car Series 2002 season and is widely regarded as one of the most challenging road races in the country. Racing a K&N Engineering-owned Ultima GTR, Mall plans to be a serious threat to the multi-million dollar race teams that make up the field.
