Justin and MSR take podium at Daytona 24 Hours
Justin got his 2006 racing season off to a great start at the Daytona 24 Hours with a 2nd place finish in the Michael Shank Racing #60 Flight Options Riley-Lexus car. Justin, team-mates A.J. Allmendinger, Oswaldo Negri and Mark Patterson drove a strong race, leading in the early stages, running consistently in the top five and bringing the car safely through the night to the podium.
Starting in 5th, MSR was able to maintain a strong pace throughout and all four drivers ran an error-free race. The team suffered no significant mechanical problems in the classic enduro, and apart from a few near misses while lapping the slower GT cars, only a problem with the toe link on the rear suspension temporarily halted the team's progress.
Justin was delighted to have been part of MSR's first 24 Hours podium. “It's great to come here and be able to compete. There were a lot of fast cars here, the racing was close and everyone was going for it in the early stages. Other teams had their problems, but MSR gave us a fast car and it ran faultlessly. I had a couple of close shaves in traffic, including a Porsche that span in front of me, but other than that it was just a case of putting in the lap times and taking care of the car. It's a fine achievement for the team, and I'd certainly love to come back again next year and do one better.”
