Flowery Branch, GA- 2001 was the last time that Georgia native, Johnny O'Connell, raced in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. He and his teammates won the race outright in a GTS Corvette. Since then, the Grand American Series has seen many changes as O'Connell has been racing his Corvette in the American Le Mans Series. Now O'Connell returns to Daytona to win the GT class with his teammates Andy Lally, Marc Bunting and RJ Valentine in the TRG Pontiac GTO-R. A class win at Daytona will give him overall and class wins to match his accomplishments at the other Florida endurance race, the 12 Hours of Sebring.

"It is great to be back at Daytona since winning here in 2001 with Corvette," stated O'Connell. "I got the call from GM about joining the TRG team about two weeks prior to the test." The TRG team will field two of the Pontiac GTO-R race cars that were part of the teams GT class championship in 2005. "There is awesome competition in the GT class this year," said O'Connell. "However, the TRG team has a good approach to this event, having won the race overall in 2003. We have also have a strong driver lineup and are very optimistic about the race."

O'Connell and the rest of the TRG drivers begin official practice on Thursday January 26th. The Rolex 24 at Daytona is on Saturday the 28th. For more race information, visit www.grandamerican.com.
