Riviera Beach, FL. (January 28, 2003) - The Grand American Rolex Sports car Championship kicks off this weekend with the 41st running of the Rolex Daytona 24 Hours. João Barbosa is back with Perspective Racing and the Mosler MT900R, this time in the GTS class. After a winter of development to adapt the Mosler to the new class rules, the first tests have been very encouraging:
"The Mosler MT900R is definitely better than last year, with larger tires, more horsepower, and some definite aerodynamic improvements," said João Barbosa. "The performance increase has put us close to the new Daytona Prototype class, and this could mean a good overall result. Our aim is to win the GTS class, but an overall win could be a possibility. I want to do better than our 5th place last year, for sure, and I'll also try to get the Pole Position, as that would be a hat-trick of Rolex Daytona poles for me - just for the team and my personal satisfaction, however, as the Pole Position is not relevant in a 24-hour race."
Perspective Racing has been working nonstop on the Mosler MT900R since the Daytona tests earlier this month. The car has been rebuilt from the ground up, a host of changes have been made to avoid the problems that crept up during last season, and a stellar lineup of drivers consisting of Andy Wallace, Michel Neugarten and Jerome Policand will ensure that the Perspective Racing Mosler will not be lacking in outright speed and driver experience.
For 2003, João Barbosa is proud to announce that he has received support from MAZA'S Designs, who will be painting and decorating his helmets, and that he also receives continued PR and visibility support from Paranoid Public Relations, a Hollywood, Florida PR firm with experience in promoting professional race car drivers and teams.
Originally from Portugal, João Barbosa is a highly respected driver with a rapidly growing worldwide fan base and a commitment to continuing achievements in the sport of racing. He is an experienced and award- winning driver whose credits include winning the Portuguese Go Kart Championship (1988-1990), the Hong Kong Junior Go Kart Grand Prix in 1990,
