Guy Cosmo Joins Blackforest Motorsports For the Rolex 24 At Daytona
Road racing stand-out and 2005 American Le Mans Series Rookie of the Year, Guy Cosmo, will join Blackforest Motorsports in this year's all-star lineup for the 45th running of the Grand-Am Series Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Cosmo brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Blackforest team. He joins Champ Car pilot Alex Tagliani and car owner Tom Nastasi running the only Mustang Cobra GT entry in a field of 40 GT cars.
"This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the Mustang Cobra GT for Ford," said Guy, "and an excellent way to show the capabilities of Blackforest Motorsports. Brian Nott has put together a tremendous program and his knowledge has already brought great results to the team. Tom Nastasi and I have enjoyed racing together over the years and I'm looking forward to running in the 24 with him and Alex."
This will be the debut for the Mustang Cobra GT and everyone involved in the program is proud to have this opportunity.
"Tom had a lot of choices in selecting the drivers for this car," noted Cosmo. "It's always nice to know you were chosen based on your history and ability to bring in a solid performance. I appreciate the trust Tom has placed in me. And, I'm really looking forward to sharing the experience with Alex. I'm sure we'll both bring positive contributions to the effort. It's a good feeling knowing we're in equipment that has the pedigree and potential to win."
"The team tested recently," continued Guy "and everyone was pleased with the progress. The car was put through its paces in a good variety of weather conditions and responded very predictably to set-up changes. We're extremely confident in the car's reliability."
"I've really been wanting to put a program together with Guy for some time now," said Tom Nastasi. "This is the perfect opportunity. I know going in that I can trust Guy with the car and it's obvious he has the talent that can help take us to the front."
In other news on the Grand Am front, Guy is also pleased to announce he will join Fountain Motorsports in the KONI Challenge series for the 2007 season, driving the #127 BMW 330 in the Street Tuner (ST) category. The Ontario, New York-based team will campaign three BMW 330's with drivers Jason Potter, David Tuaty, Seth Thomas, Sam Schultz and Cosmo.
Guy piloted the #125 FMS BMW 330ci to Fountain Motorsports' best qualifying effort of 2006, the season finale at VIR.
"Guy brought a lot to the program at VIR and took our team to the next level," said team owner Mike Fonte. "We're excited to have Guy on board with us this season and we're confident he'll help put this team in the running for the championship."
The first race of the 2007 Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series season will take the green flag on Friday, January 26 at 2:15 p.m. ET on the 3.56-mile, 14-turn Daytona International Speedway road course. More than 100 cars are entered in the Fresh From Florida 200.
