Flying Lizard Readies for 2005 Season Opener in Daytona
February 2, 2005-Daytona Beach, FLORIDA--Flying Lizard Motorsports arrived today in Daytona Beach, Fla. to field the team's No. 75 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car at the Rolex 24 at Daytona on February 5-6. Drivers Johannes van Overbeek, Jon Fogarty, Lonnie Pechnik, Seth Neiman and Patrick Long will pilot the car, which will run a custom livery for the race. The Sonoma, California-based team returns to Daytona after finishing second in the GT category and third overall in the same race in 2004.
"We've spent a lot of time preparing for this race because we know it will be a challenging event. It will be the first time we've been racing since October and we'll be dealing with new regulations, a guest driver, and a car that we have not raced since the 2004 event," said team principal and crew chief Tommy Sadler. "That said, we are very focused going into this event: we have a strong driver line up, we're working with our 2004 crew who are familiar with one another and work well together, and at the Test Days last month we were able to field a fast car. I'm looking forward to getting back out on the track this weekend!"
Flying Lizard chief strategist Thomas Blam added, "The Rolex 24 is one of the world's premiere endurance events. This year's race is shaping up to be an exciting event. A lot can happen in 24 hours: a very large field combined with new GT rules will make this an extremely competitive and difficult race for everyone."
The Flying Lizard No. 75 Porsche is sponsored by eSilicon and ShoreTel--both returning sponsors from the 2004 season. The No. 75 will run a custom livery at Daytona, sporting the dynamic "Flying Lizard" in the team's distinctive silver and red.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel in segments. Coverage times are February 5, 12 to 7 p.m. and 8 to 11 p.m. Eastern Time and February 6, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m Eastern Time.
