Now the Brazilian, 19 years old, driver will concentrate on the up-coming F.3000 season with Team DRACO
After 24 long hours and 621 laps, the adventure of the Brazilian Augusto Farfus Junior, in one of the most historic motor racing event in USA, has come to an end. Arrived at its 41st edition the annual appointment of the 24 Hours attracts every year a remarkable attention because of its tradition, and because of the professional skills it requests.
Despite some set up difficulties in qualifying that resulted in a disappointing 31st starting position on the grid, car #20 put on a fantastic performance on Saturday and all night, all the way into the 20th hour, when it was running in 3rd overall and 2nd GT class. Farfus, and his team mates, put on truly impressive back-to-back double stints all night along, lapping among the fastest laps on the GT class. Early in the 20th hour the Ferrari 360 Modena GT ran into electric problems, which affected the car's paddle-shift gearbox. After 2 hours and twenty minutes of work on electrical system, rebuilding and changing the alternator, starter, wiring box and the battery, the car rejoined the race and pushed hard to regain positions and crossed the chequered flag in 14th position overall, 7th of GT class.
"It was great to once again see three Ferraris take the chequered flag in formation here at Daytona" - said Claudio Berro, head of Ferrari's Corse Clienti programme - "The 360 GT proved itself to be reliable, the drivers were very consistent in their performance and the teams worked in a very professional manner, which allowed them to obtain a impressive result even beating rivals from higher categories".
Augusto showed a great professional approach to his job and proved to have reached a good maturity level, as a driver. At his "first time" at Daytona, at his "first time" at a 24 hours race, Augusto showed am excellent physical preparation, an excellent capacity to be always concentrated on his job, a constant driving rhythm, and an undoubted ability in building relationships with the others: his team mates and the team's crew itself. This experience at the Daytona event non only represented a new experience for him (before this participation to the 24 hours of Daytona he was used to race with a F.3000 car), but also a pleasant surprise. He declared: "This participation to the 24 hours it was very positive for me. I've added an important experience to my life and to my career and I have to admit that I've had the fortune to race with a nice and prestigious team that gave me big emotions that I'll never forget".
Now Augusto will be coming back to Italy, to Mr. Morini and his Team Draco with which he will take part to the up-coming season of the European F.3000 championship. Augusto Farfus Junior and Team Draco will soon face a test day in preparation of the fist race (27th April, Estoril -P).
