Datona 24: Teams prepare for 40th anniversary Rolex 24

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 1, 2002) -- The 74-car field was final on Friday for the 40th anniversary Rolex 24 At Daytona. Sunday's Grand American Road Racing season opener goes green at 1 p.m. at Daytona International Speedway.

In today's final practice session for the endurance sportscar race, the No. 2 Crawford Racing Judd Crawford led the way with a speed of 122.479 mph, followed closely by the No. 16 Dyson Racing Ford Riley & Scott at 122.302 mph. Saturday's pole sitter, No. 27 Doran Lista Racing team continued to turn fast laps, with the third fastest speed in the last practice session at 121.528 mph.

Despite a brush with the wall in last night's practice session, the No. 8 Risi Competizione Nissan Lola posted the fastest final practice speed for SRPII at 112.905 mph.

The No. 3 Rocketsports Racing Jaguar posted the fastest final practice speed in GTS at 113.659 mph. The No. 29 Sky Blue Racing Mustang finished practice with the fast lap in AGT at 111.326 mph.

In addition to all the fast action on the track, the Speedway will provide entertainment throughout the weekend including a concert in the infield Saturday evening from 7-11 p.m. and a wine and cheese reception from 2-4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The Rolex 24 At Daytona will be broadcast on Speedvision and Motor Racing Network, but fans can still catch all the action in person at "World Center of Racing." Tickets are still available at the Speedway Ticket Office or at the gate.
