Darren Law will join GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing for the 2013 Rolex 24 At Daytona. The Phoenix driver will share the No. 99 Corvette-powered Riley Daytona Prototype – dubbed the Red Dragon – with Jon Fogarty of Bend, Ore., Memo Gidley of Novato, Calif., and Alex Gurney of Irvine, Calif. The race, season-opener for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, is scheduled for Jan. 26 and 27, on the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway infield road course in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Law won the demanding 24-hour Daytona race in 2009. He believes the Red Dragon could take him to his second victory.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to race with the GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing team. I've raced against them for many, many years and also become good friends with Jon, Alex and Memo. I respect everything they've done; they run a very professional operation," he said.

"I really appreciate the call from [team owner] Bob Stallings and his trust in inviting me to be part of his team. I made a commitment that the only way I was going to do this event was with the right team and the right car. I think this is the best opportunity out there."

Law joined the team for a two-day test this week at Daytona International Speedway. He quickly realized he and his co-drivers have very close driving styles and they like the same car setup. That bodes well for the 24-hour race.

"The driving styles are very similar and we're all very close together on lap times in the car. When we overlaid the [data] graphs, they were pretty much on top of each other," he noted.

Law has driven with Chevrolet Corvette power, both in the Rolex Series and at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, where he is the chief operating officer. He was happy with the Red Dragon's performance and delighted to return to a Riley chassis.

"It's great to be back in a Chevy Corvette prototype and a Riley chassis," he said. "It's so comfortable to drive. I like how it puts the power down, and the feel and feedback to the driver. It's very responsive to change; it's nice to be able to adjust it and get it into the right window for handling. I think having the Riley is an advantage in a long race."

With a strong car, drivers and crew, Law is optimistic the team will perform well in January.

"The GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing team has all the ingredients for a winning program," he said. "I look forward to helping them win their first Rolex 24 At Daytona."
