HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (January 8, 2003) -- Dark Dog Energy Drink reached agreement with Indy Racing League star Airton Dare to be the lead driver for the Dark Dog team at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, Feb. 1-2. Dare will be driving the Saleen S7R with Franz Konrad, Sean Francois and Tony Seiler.
"We are very excited about adding Airton to the team", said Konrad. "We have added a driver that knows how to win. We look for great things to happen in Daytona."
Dare, 24, was the Indy Racing League Rookie of the Year in 2001. After scoring his first IRL victory at Kansas in 2002, he finished sixth in the point standings racing for the Foyt/Harrah's Racing Team.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to drive with such a reputable team and in a race like this. Dark Dog is starting a trend with Grand American that will help the series grow even larger through these types of corporate commitments" said Dare, a native of Brazil who currently resides in South Florida.
Dark Dog Energy Drink was the title sponsor of the 2002 Dark Dog Grand American Finale at Daytona International Speedway.
Dare becomes one of several IRL drivers racing in the 41st Rolex 24 At Daytona, including Scott Sharp, Scott Goodyear and Anthony Lazzaro.
