COMPUSA TEAM TABS DIXON FOR 9-HOUR ROLEX SERIES FINALE IN UTAH
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (August 3, 2006) -- CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates has confirmed 2006 Rolex 24 At Daytona winner Scott Dixon as part of its driver trio with regulars Scott Pruett and Luis Diaz for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series season finale September 2nd at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
The 2003 IRL IndyCar Series champion joined fellow Team Target driver Dan Wheldon and NASCAR CGRFS pilot Casey Mears earlier this year at Daytona in the no.02 Target Riley, delivering the team its first win in the prestigious 24 hour event. Dixon's participation in the inaugural 9-hour enduro dubbed the "Discount Tire Sunchaser" will mark his fifth start in Grand American's Daytona Prototype division.
"Anytime you have the opportunity to put a driver of Scott Dixon's caliber into the lineup, it's a done deal," said Team Owner Chip Ganassi. "Scott is a proven road racing champion, and I know he looks forward to contributing to the Grand American program whenever possible. Hopefully we can repeat what we were able to accomplish in 2004 in Fontana."
No stranger to joining the team's Rolex Series lineup to close out the season, Dixon previously co-drove a third CGRFS-prepared car at California Speedway in 2004, gridding second and finishing third as the team started 1-2-3 before sending Pruett and co-driver Max Papis to Victory Lane to seal the championship.
"I'm obviously looking forward to getting back into the Daytona Prototype, especially after what we were able to accomplish for Target and the guys back in January," said Dixon. "The 24 Hours was an example of one of the big races this team strives for every year, but I think the season finale will prove to be just as important as I expect Scott and Luis to be in contention for the championship."
The Ganassi driver lineup will have one race weekend prior to the 9-hour Utah finale to get reacquainted, as the Rolex and IndyCar Series run together as part of a double-header at Infineon Raceway in late August.
Pruett and Diaz are currently third in the Rolex Series Driver point standings in the no.01 CompUSA car, while Dixon stands fourth in his no.9 Target machine. Both are looking to record their second championship for Ganassi this season.
Next up for Pruett and Diaz and the no.01 team is the Crown Royal 200 at The Glen, Friday, August 11th on the 3.4-mile permanent road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y. Catch the team in action on SPEED Channel at 9:00 ET (TAPE-DELAY).
