Law finishes second despite problems

FONTANA, Calif. (March 23, 2002) - After the first 50 laps of the Grand American 400 at California Speedway, Rolex Series driver Darren Law looked to be on his way to not only winning the SRP II class, but finishing in the top three overall.

The #07 Momentum Motorcars/G&W Motorsports Picchio Prototype started in the ninth row (17th overall) after failing to qualify.

Within the first 20 laps, Law bolted through the pack, putting the Picchio in fourth overall. For the next 30 laps, Law continued to keep the pressure on the leaders, until the brakes started to go out.

"I started to get a really long brake pedal," Law said. "I had to pump it to get any brakes. We decided to bring the car in. It's better to be safe than sorry."

After bringing the car to the pits, the team bled the brakes and discovered they would have to changes the master cylinder.

The team made the changes, Law's teammate Andy Lally got behind the wheel and the team finished the race second in SRP II.

"We had a great run going," Law said. "We found more horsepower and were really in contention to win. We'll get everything sorted out and be ready to go in Phoenix."

Law's next event will be under the lights at his home track, Phoenix International Raceway. The United Auto 200 will begin at 7:00 p.m. MT on Saturday April 20.
