Burt Frisselle race report

Burt Frisselle Takes GAMMA88 to the Front at Barber
Strong run with new sponsor nets 4th at the finish

10 April 2011- After taking a strong fourth place finish in AIM Autosport's first race of the 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season, Burt Frisselle was looking to go even better in round three. With a new sponsor joining the effort--GAMMA88--and a solid start to 2011, Frisselle and co-driver Mark Wilkins were hungry for even more at Barber Motorsports Park.

Wilkins started from sixth on the grid, and was up to second by lap 15. After an extended run in the lead pack, Wilkins turned the car over to Frisselle.

Working his way up after running as low as ninth, Frisselle moved to take the lead on lap 72. But that view was soon spoiled as a fraught battle with the eventual race winning No. 01 machine saw unfortunate contact with a GT car, sending Frisselle back to the pits to address a cut tire. Despite the loss of the lead and track position, Frisselle made the most of the new tires to race back up to fourth at the finish.

While the team had been hoping to convert the run up front into a spray of champagne, the fourth place finish still marked another solid result as AIM continues to adapt to the new Continental Tire, having missed out on the data gathering at the Rolex 24.

We were fighting for the front, they were fighting for the front and that's life.

"At the end of the day it cost us one spot," said Frisselle about the late-race tangle. "It was a good run, a good good race, and we're getting there. We really had a podium car today. It was typical GRAND-AM racing - it's chaos out there and in the mix of a GT battle there was a DP battle we clipped the 59 and unfortunately it took our tire down.

"We were fighting for the front, they were fighting for the front and that's life. The guys did a great job - we recovered really well and we drove back up to fourth place and in two more laps I think we would have had the Starworks car so we just have to dig and at VIR, we expect to be on the podium."
