Brumos Racing Pleased with Results of First Test at Homestead

Jacksonville, FL: When Brumos Racing announced plans in October to campaign a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car in the Rolex Series' GT class for 2011, there was much to be done in a short time to prepare for the season ahead. The team took an important first step as they traveled to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the December test days and saw their new car on track for the very first time. The pristine white Porsche had just arrived the week before, where it was delivered into the hands of Goldcrest Motorsports in Atlanta for its initial preparation. The Goldcrest group will be working with Brumos for the first two races of 2011 as Brumos assembles its Jacksonville-based team and upgrades its raceshop in preparation for the rest of the season.

Brumos drivers Andrew Davis and Leh Keen wasted no time getting acquainted with the new car, taking advantage of the opportunity to gain valuable seat time as they put the #59 though its paces. Day 2 of the test also saw Brumos veteran Hurley Haywood back behind the wheel as he checked out the newest Brumos entry, adding his feedback to that of the other drivers.

"I thought our test went exceptionally well," Davis said. "The first time out with the new 911 and the first time for me with Brumos Racing is very exciting. Now I really feel like a Brumos driver since I have actually turned some laps in the #59. Our crew did an exceptional job. They worked really hard over the last week to get the car ready for this test. We were able to get a lot of testing in, and we went through a whole range of adjustments. We learned a lot not only about the car but also about the new tires. To have both Dan Davis and Hurley here the entire time watching over us was comforting, because you can tell they want it done right and that the team is going to be put together properly. On top of all that, we showed a lot of speed and were fastest in session, so I'm thrilled and really looking forward to Daytona."

Leh Keen took the honor of driving the first laps in the new Porsche, and shared his co-driver's enthusiasm. "Porsche has been building these Cup cars for a while, so they know how to put together one heck of a car," he said. "We had absolutely no issues, and it was also fast, which always helps. We've been working on setting up the car the past two days but also trying to figure out the new tires. Andrew and I both know these cars very well and obviously, Brumos knows Porsches, so the unknown for us will really be the tires, but that isn't a disadvantage because the tires are new to all the teams. I think our odds are really good for Daytona. "

Hurley Haywood recalls 2002 as the last time he drove a GT car, and enjoyed taking a turn behind the wheel in the new Brumos #59. "It was a lot of fun, and a real treat to get back in a Porsche 911 for Brumos. It will be painted in traditional Brumos colors for Daytona, so I am really looking forward to that. Andrew and Leh have been fast and they are great to work with. We all have similar feedback on the car, and it makes it a lot easier when the drivers are all on the same page. The GT class is going to be very competitive this year in Daytona, so I think it's going to come down to who has the best team behind them - not necessarily the best car, but the best team. Brumos is going to be in a position to handle anything that might arise during the 24 hours and, as we all know, the guy who wins that race is the guy who stays out of the pits and keeps motoring around lap after lap with no problems, so that is what we are going to strive for. We have a good team of drivers and a good crew, and our whole program is going to all come together. We have a high degree of confidence."

The Brumos #59 Porsche GT3 will be making its next appearance at the `Roar Before the 24' test days. That event is scheduled for January 7 9, 2011, at Daytona International Speedway.
