"Flawless" shakedown of new PAP-Parts Daytona Prototype

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 23, 2003) -- PAP Parts drivers Steve Southard and Chip Vance took their first laps at the wheel of the team's new BMW-powered FABCAR Daytona Prototype during a test session at Putnam Park on Wednesday. In its first on-track appearance, the No. 9 BMW turned 55 laps without any problems.

"Everything went very well. The car ran flawlessly," remarked Southard. "My first impressions of the car are pretty much what I expected. It had plenty of horsepower and was great right out of the box."

"It really did run flawlessly," echoed FABCAR owner Dave Klym. "It's ready to head to Daytona for its first race."

The No. 7 BMW will make its racing debut next weekend in the Grand American Champions Weekend presented by Brumos Porsche at Daytona International Speedway, October 31 - November 2. Southard, Vance and Duncan Dayton are on the driver lineup for new Daytona Prototype.

"We are looking at Daytona as a test. We want to continue our development of the car next week. You could say we are a year behind everyone else," said Southard.

The No. 7 BMW is the seventh Daytona Prototype chassis constructed by FABCAR and the first to house a BMW V-8 engine.

The new car is one of 10 Daytona Prototypes slated to run in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series' finale at Daytona and will be one of three making its racing debut during the event. Essex Racing and SpeedSource will also debut new Ford-powered Multimatic Daytona Prototypes during the Champions Weekend.

Tickets are currently on sale for the Grand American Champions Weekend presented by Brumos Porsche and can be purchased online at www.daytonaintenrationalspeedway.com or by calling 386-253-RACE.
