Birmingham, AL -- October 7, 2004 - The three Porsches of The Racer's Group prepared for Sunday's Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL today, taking part in the promoter test day that accompanies the event. TRG will campaign its usual twin 911 GT3 RS es, the #66 F1 Air/Gleason Agency Porsche and the #67 Monster Cable/TRG Porsche, alongside the #65 Basic Coatings Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car. RJ Valentine, Chris Gleason and Ian James, co-drivers of the #66 machine, will look to reclaim 3rd place in the GT-class drivers championship at Barber, while veteran sports car racer Robert Nearn joins Kevin Buckler in the #67 car. David Master, of Santa Fe, NM, and Steve Pattee, of Des Moines, IA, will team up for the first time in the #65 car.
Pattee said, "It's great to be at this facility and racing in the Basic Coatings car -- TRG has helped me learn the track quickly, so I think we'll be up to speed in rapid fashion. It's interesting for me being on track with the DPs -- driving with one eye on the mirror is a new experience for me. I'm getting a good feeling for the car, and the rhythmic nature of the track suits my driving style really well. I'm very much looking forward to the weekend."
The fantastic Barber Motorsports Park is new to most of TRG's drivers. The rolling hills and spotless facilities appeal to fans and drivers alike. Kevin Buckler said, "It's a gorgeous facility here, from the landscaping to the layout of the circuit itself. They went to a lot of trouble to build this place, and it's a lot of fun to be here."
Buckler spoke about the challenge of the race this weekend. "We've got a lot of work ahead of us in preparing our cars for a track we've not been to before, but we've enlisted one of the instructors from the Porsche Driving Experience here to teach us the nuances of the circuit. We've got to take the fight to the three BMWs, but that makes for great racing. I'm thrilled to be driving with Robert [Nearn] -- he's shown a lot of experience and speed in the car when he's raced with TRG before, and we're going to make a potent duo this weekend. The #66 guys are going to fly here, and we're happy to welcome David Master and Steve Pattee to the fold in the #65 car -- they'll do very well. It's a busy weekend for us, but it's going to be great."
Chris Gleason, who has driven the #66 F1 Air/Gleason Agency Porsche all season, commented on his surroundings. "It's a wonderful course, it's challenging with its mix of camber and elevation changes. I have to learn the circuit, and keep working at improving in the car. We'll look for a strong result here to retake 3rd place in the Championship. We can't make any mistakes these last two races, but the TRG team seems to have given us a great car right out of the box at a new track."
The Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park will be broadcast live on Speed Channel at 1pm ET on Sunday, October 10.
