Michael Shank Racing continues Alabama progress
(Birmingham, AL)- July 28-- Michael Shank Racing completed the Thursday promoter test session at Barber Motorsports Park outside of Birmingham, Alabama with drivers Kenny Wilden and Mike Borkowski taking turns at the wheel of the Mears Motor Coach machine in preparation for Sunday's Porsche 250 presented by Bradley Arant.
After posting some strong results in a test at the Alabama track recently, the team was feeling confident heading into this weekends event, and the Thursday promoter test day did nothing to hurt that confidence, as the car was in the top three in the first session's unofficial times before the team moved toward working on race set up in the afternoon session.
"We knew we were going to be quick this weekend, and the track is a little bit different than it was when we were here last, but we have got off to a good start to the weekend," said team owner Mike Shank. "Kenny did a great job for us today and got himself close to Mike's (Borkowski) time even though it's been a while since he's been in the car. So we'll just keep chipping away at it and hopefully we can qualify well and stay out of trouble on Sunday."
The impressive Barber Motorsports Park facility was drenched in sun, sending temperatures soaring through the day and keeping the track conditions changing.
"The track was a lot hotter today than it was when we tested here, so it's a little bit different as far as the grip, but the car feels pretty quick and I know Dale (Wise-MSR lead engineer) has some more things he wants to try tomorrow," said Borkowski. "It's great to get the weekend off to a fast start, but we just have to keep improving because everything is so competitive here in Rolex and if we are going to be back on the podium again, we'll have to just keep getting faster during the weekend."
Friday will again afford the team the opportunity to test with a morning session beginning at 9:40 AM, with qualifying scheduled to take place on Saturday.
