ROJAS' LEADS THREE LEXUS-POWERED ENTRIES INTO TOP-10 IN BARBER QUALIFYING
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (July 21, 2007) -- Memo Rojas qualified his #01 Telmex Lexus-Riley fifth overall to lead three Lexus-powered Daytona Prototypes into the top-10 in qualifying for Sunday's Barber 250 at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala.
Rojas will co-drive with teammate Scott Pruett for Chip Ganassi Racing on Sunday. Pruett enters tomorrow's race as the series points leader with a 15-point advantage over Max Angelelli, while Ganassi continues to have the advantage in the Team Championship with a 20-point lead.
Also joining Rojas in the top-10 on Saturday were Mark Wilkins, who was eighth in the #61 Exchange Traded Gold Lexus/Riley for AIM Autosport, and Shane Lewis in the #3 PLP Lexus-Riley for Southard Motorsports in ninth. For Lewis and the PLP team, it marks their top qualifying effort of the season. The squad also is coming off their best finish of the 2007 campaign with an eighth at the Iowa Speedway last weekend.
Mark Patterson posted the 11th-fastest time in the #60 Lexus-Riley entry he shares with Oswalod Negri, while John Pew will start 14th fourteenth in the Playboy-sponsored Lexus-Riley he will co-drive with Ian James -- both for Michael Shank Racing. Both Shank teams have finished in the top-10 in each of the last three races.
Coming off a career-best second-place finish with Michael Valiante at Iowa, Rob Finlay qualified 13th in the #19 Z-Line Designs/Make-A-Wish Lexus-Riley for Chip Ganassi Racing. Finlay and Valiante have teamed to finish no worse than eighth in the last four races.
Sunday's Barber 250 will start at 3:00 p.m. EDT and be televised live on SPEED.
