DUNO TO BE JOINED BY BARBOSA FOR WATKINS GLEN
August 1, 2006, Los Angeles, CA...Milka Duno will be joined with Portugal's Joao Barbosa for the upcoming Crown Royal 250 at the Glen at Watkins Glen International in upstate New York this August 10 and 11, 2006.
Barbosa will substitute for Duno's scheduled teammate Corvette Racing driver Olivier Beretta. Increased tire competition in this year's Formula One World Championship has resulted in Beretta, in accordance with his agreement with Michelin, being called away from the Watkins race with Duno to perform in his role as a Formula One test driver for Michelin.
Barbosa raced in the Daytona Prototype class in this year's 24 Hours At Daytona with Brumos Racing in the #59 Brumos Porsche Fabcar.
A GTS class winner of the 24 Hours At Daytona in 2003, Barbosa is a world class sportscar racer with experience in the Grand American Series, the American Le Mans Series and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In addition, Barbosa has also earned a GT class win at the 1000km of SPA, 2nd in the 2003 Grand American Series GTS Championship and 3rd in the 2002 Grand American Series GT Championship -- with six poles in ten races.
He also test drove for Scuderia Minardi Formula One, was a development and test diver for Team Sri Lanka in the Japanese GT Championship, a works driver for Mosler Automotive, earned the "Rising Star" award in the 1997 Formula Kool//Toyota Atlantic Championship and the "Rookie of the Year" award in the 1996 Italian Formula 3 Championship.
"While I'm sad that Olivier can't be with us at this race, I know he will be back with us very soon and wish him great luck with the tire testing. At the same time -- it will be great to race with Joao. We've worked together in the past in Europe and it was great fun and a valuable experience. I very much welcome his participation and I'm sure he will fit in great with the CITGO Racing team!"
