June 18, 2002 Road Atlanta, GA -- Two-time back-to-back SRPII champs Archangel Motorsports returns to Rolex Sports Car Series action with their entry at this weekend's Sports Car Grand Prix at The Glen.
Archangel's entry of their #22 CTI Communications sponsored Nissan Lola B2K/40 marks the teams first return to the series since the terrible tragedy the team experienced at Miami-Homestead Raceway in March. Piloting the team's Watkins Glen effort will be David Sterenberg, Bret Arsenault and a third driver TBA.
June is turning out to be an exceptionally busy month for team owner and MTV celeb Mike Johnson. In addition to owning and managing his Archangel Rolex effort, Johnson also serves as Team Manager for KnightHawk Racing's American Le Mans Series and 24 Hours of Le Mans challenge. In fact, Johnson just completed the Le Mans classic and is on his way to Watkins Glen just as this release is being issued. Immediately following the race in upstate New York, Johnson immediately takes off for the ALMS event at Mid-Ohio on June 28 -- 30.
"I've always said that I like being busy -- but the schedule this month is getting kind of extreme," says road-warrior Johnson. "A jam-packed schedule can be intense, but it can be done well -- with a lot of planning and with the commitment of my teammates. This crew of mine is awesome, and with their performance at Le Mans we're starting to feel confident that we're getting to the point where we might truly be considered 'world-class' competitors.
The "Six Hours of the Glen" stands alongside the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring as one of sportscar racing's classic battles. The six-hour timed event, held at Watkins Glen International, has long been a favorite of drivers worldwide. It's also known as one of America's most beautiful tracks due to its location in the stunning Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.
"I'm really looking forward to returning to the Rolex for this special event," added Johnson. "Watkins Glen is a "must do" for any serious sportscar organization. I anticipate strong competition and look forward to the challenge."
