ADDAX TEAM GP3 COMPETE IN GP EUROPA IN VALENCIA.
The new Spanish team in GP3, Addax Team have taken part for the first time in the Europa GP, at the Street circuit in Valencia this past weekend in what was the third event of the present season. The three drivers representing the Valencia based team, Felipe Guimarães, Pablo Sanchez Lopez and Mirko Bortolotti had differing fortunes.
Felipe Guimarães, set the best time of the three in the qualifying session, which gave him and the team great hopes for the race at the start. He made one of the fastest starts but when he got to the first corner, after having overtaken more than one or two rivals, he was too late in braking and he climbed up the back of a car in front, an incident which finished his first race. In the second race, given the fact that he had to start from a lowly position with all the trouble in front of him, Felipe decided to race somewhat conservatively with the objective of gaining as much racing experience in this class as he could. Nevertheless he managed to climb to 18th from his 24th position at the start after some good overtaking.
Mirko Bortolotti did not have such a good time in qualifying. He was unfortunate to be affected by a red flag decision just when he was setting his fastest lap time. For this reason he was relegated to a lowly position on the starting grid for the first race. Nevertheless, at the start he was able to make up a few positions, before being held up at the first corner by a massive pile up which forced him to the back of the field once more. From then on he made a great effort to fight back and finish 18th. In Sunday's second race he gave a good account of himself, considering the difficulties of starting from such a lowly position and finished in the top ten. Overtaking on this circuit in the middle of a peloton of anxious young drivers is not easy but Mirko is on his way to finding his feet in this championship.
Pablo Sanchez Lopez, finished the qualifying session halfway down the field and was always looking to solve stability problems with the set up of the car. He drove a cautious first race, a little caught up in the main group of drivers, but he will have no doubt gained in confidence with every lap. He made various attempts to overtake but lost stability when trying to brake. In the second race, Pablo was able to show signs of the progress he has been making and he gradually climbed his way through the field to finish in a very creditable 9th position. Even though this meant he was close to scoring points, the most important thing is that his confidence with the car is increasing and this experience will help as he makes progress in his career as a racing driver.
The next event will take place at the circuit of Silverstone, England and will be part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend on the 9th, 10th and 11th of July.
