DIFFICULT WEEKEND FOR ADDAX TEAM
The Weekend has been very complicated for Addax Team, as well as all the other teams involved in the GP3 Series event here at the Belgian circuit of Spa Francorchamps, due to the unpredictable weather conditions. Some parts of the circuit were very wet whereas others were completely dry, making the choice of tyres almost a lottery. These adverse conditions provoked numerous incidents and accidents and a number of drivers who failed to qualify.
Felipe Guimarães: As always, he was at a disadvantage because he was seeing the circuit for the first time. This was aggravated yet further when he was only able to complete two laps in free practice, due to engine problems. Nevertheless, he was able to post the thirteenth fastest time in qualification once he got back out on track. However in the first race he started from 24th due to a penalty pending from a previous race. He managed to climb back to 13th in the race but with the rain he came off the circuit just when he was about to come into the pits for a change of tyres. He started the second race from the back of the grid in 30th and last position, but again was able to show his ability, once he had become familiar with the circuit. He climbed 21 positions and in a race of this kind it is a feat that is worthy of mention. Despite all this, Felipe was unable to score any points this weekend. The handicap of not knowing the circuit beforehand together with the pending penalty and not being able to do much in free practice were just too many adverse factors.
Mirko Bortolloti: He started free practice in 25th position. He improved to third position in the session after taking the risk of using slicks on the slippery race track. In the first race he started from 12th on the grid but disaster struck on lap five, when a heavy shower caught him by surprise and he came off the circuit just 50 metres before coming into the pit lane for a change of tyres. In the second race he started from a lowly 22nd position. Nevertheless, he drove a good race, climbing his way up to 14th position. It was a great effort considering the difficulties of starting so far back in this class.
Pablo Sanchez: It was a weekend that the Mexican driver would prefer to forget. He completed the free practice in 28th position, after having come off the circuit early on in the session. He qualified for the first race in 28th but an accident at the first corner ended his participation. In the second race he started from 28th on the grid but a problem with the front nose of the car and a penalty for speeding in the pit lane relegated him to the back of the field and he only managed to finish in 25th. We can only hope that Pablo takes full advantage of his last opportunity at the Italian circuit of Monza and demonstrates what he is made of.
The last event will take place at the Italian circuit of Monza between the 10th and 13th of September where teams and driver will have a last chance to show their true colours.
