HOCKENHEIM: FIRST PODIUM IN GP3 SERIES FOR STEFANO COLETTI
25/07/2010 - Eve's propositions attended for Stefano Coletti at Hockenheim in the fifth round of the GP3 Series; the German track in the past had always seen the young driver from Monaco under the spotlight and this occasion did not make an exception.
Qualifying on Saturday were conditioned by changing weather and awarded the driver of Team Tech 1 with the fourteenth position in 1:48.058. The recovery in race one was thrilling: Coletti crossed the finish line of lap one in ninth position and then got up to the sixth plae at the end of lap four, before obtaining the final fifth position during lap nine.
Race two, marked by accidents and ended under the safety car regime, gave Coletti his first GP3 podium which was won thanks to an overtaking at lap two after the start in fouth position due to the inversion of the top eight drivers of race one.
"Hockenheim confirmed to be a track whereby I can express myself easily at high levels. Weather conditions did not award our choice: we decided to go for a wet setup but the rain stopped ten minutes into the race and in the final stages all drivers that opted for a dry setup were favoured. In race one, things did anyway go in the right way: the car was well balanced in all sectors and allowed me to achieve a good recovery. I was paying something on straights to my rivals in terms of top speed and this unavoidably forced me to risk a bit more under braking. Race two, thanks also to the double deployment of the safety car, was probably less thrilling but finishing on the podium satisfied me anyway".
The GP3 Series will be back on track this coming weekend at Budapest.
