Harvey secure his second win of the season

This weekend saw British racing driver Jack Harvey secure his second GP3 win of the season, at the world-famous Monza racetrack in Italy.

As a result of this weekend’s victory, Harvey has moved back up to fifth place in the Drivers Championship with one round to go.

The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver had a tricky qualifying session. The ART GP driver had a strong run on his first set of tyres but bad traffic on his second run meant he finished with only the 12th quickest lap time of the session.

On Saturday afternoon, Harvey lined up on the sixth row of the grid for the first race of the weekend. Harvey was able to avoid the racing incidents on the opening lap and by the end of lap one was up to P9. Just a few corners later, Harvey made a great move on Niederhauser and snatched eighth place.

The MSA Team UK driver then set about catching and passing Kujala and after seventeen laps of racing, crossed the finish line in P7, taking two more Championship points.

On Sunday morning, Harvey lined up in second place on the reverse grid. Harvey made a textbook start, avoiding the carnage caused by Niederhauser stalling on the grid and Fontana running in the back of him. Harvey then started to pull out a lead however the safety car was brought out shortly to deal with stricken cars.

At the restart Harvey continued to stay in control of the race while the pack battled behind him. After seventeen laps of racing Harvey took the chequered flag and his second GP3 win of the season.

“After a tough weekend in Spa we knew what we had to do in Monza – secure a good result and pick up a solid haul of Championship points – and that’s exactly what we have done. It’s a great feeling to get my second win of the season and it keeps the fight for the Championship alive. Although there’s just one round left we’ll keep pushing for the Championship at every step;” commented Jack Harvey.
