GP3 drops Sochi and Bahrain for Hockenheim and Sepang

GP3 has unveiled a nine-round calendar for the seventh season of the series which, as expected, will feature Hockenheim and Sepang in place of Sochi and Bahrain.

The upcoming campaign, for which 20 drivers have already been confirmed, will be the first year for GP3's third-generation car - the Dallara GP3/16.

And unlike 2015, which featured a round in support of the Bahrain WEC race, all 2016 GP3 races will take place on the same weekends as Formula 1 Grands Prix.

As previously reported by, Sochi is out of the calendar after a two-year stint in the series. The Russian round will make way for the championship's inaugural races at Sepang.

Meanwhile, with the German Grand Prix returning to F1 in 2016, GP3 will be back at Hockenheim, where it previously raced in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
