ADDAX TEAM FINISH PRE-SEASON IN MONTMELO.
The new GP3 class finished its pre-season, yesterday and today, over four free practice sessions at the Catalunya circuit of Montmelo. The Spanish Addax Team has taken part in the tests, with both of its official drivers Pablo Sanchez Lopez and Mirko Bortolotti competing, together with Brazilian driver Felipe Guimaraes.
Pablo Sanchez has shown that he has adapted to the car and the team and he is getting more comfortable with the set up. However, after so many delays and stoppages, he was unable to get the optimum performance out of his new set tyres, when looking to set a fast lap time and get in among the leading times. During today's stint he improved on yesterday but a couple of red flags meant he was incapable of setting good times. In the afternoon he was quick on used tyres but a little incident meant he was left with very little time to take full advantage of his last new set of tyres.
Mirko Bortolotti had problems in the first session with the turbo. He also came off the circuit at one point and this delayed the work planned for the first session. In the afternoon, the changes made to the set up of the car seemed to be having a positive effect. On the second day, the team carried out variations on the set up which didn't help produce good lap times but at least he was able to draw positive conclusions before the season gets under way in a couple of weeks.
Felipe Guimaraes spent the first morning getting to know the circuit while the track was drying out. In the afternoon he dedicated more time on setting up the car. He didn't fit new tyres to set good lap times because it was too late to take full advantage of them. In the third session he continued to work on the evolution of the car and he spent the rest of the time adapting to the new compound of semi- hard tyres, even though he had very little time to draw anything concrete from his efforts.
The next time we will see these cars in action will be in the first race of the GP3 Series, which will take place at the same Montmelo circuit from the 7th-9th May as part of Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend.
